This year has been a difficult one so far, we had to say good bye to our beautiful Winnie on January 1st as she went over the rainbow bridge, then a week later I had to say goodbye to my father. It’s been tough to say the least but going forward I want to try and make this year great. For St Patrick’s Day this year I wanted to help raise some money for a local Rescue organization. I ended up baking over 200 cupcakes for a fundraiser and raised $220.00 for the Dog Rescuers Inc, in Oakville. It was a long day of baking and decorating but everyone was pleased with their purchases! I look forward to doing some more fundraising this year, all for the love of our furry friends.

This year we hope to grow awareness and encourage change whenever we can, it’s difficult to do as everyone is so busy but a little is better than nothing!

Remember to please spay & neuter you pets to help control the pet population and if you are looking for a new furry friend there are so many animals looking for their forever home at a local Rescue, shelter, Humane Society or SPCA.

Mississauga Humane Society Walk a thon, Sept 14 2013

The weather was perfect for the Mississauga Humane Society walk-a-thon, the sun was shinning and the park was full of people. We are a big fan of the MHS as they do not have a shelter and rely on foster parents to take care of all their animals, which help dogs and cats adjust to a home setting. (more…)

Mano Krueger and Joan Znidarec, The Dog Rescuers, with a few of the rescued pupsMar 07, 2012 – 9:03 am

by Christina Commisso

They’ve battled rush hour traffic to save a pup who was mere minutes from death row. They’ve arranged a flight from a remote native community to give a neglected dog a second chance at life. And they don’t discriminate – having found loving homes for chickens and goats as well. (more…)

We wanted to share this great article about Rescues in our area. We do our best to help out the Dog Rescuers Inc and Dahlia from Mighty Mutt who also works with the MHS. They both do so much work to help animals in need.

Please read this fantastic article:

A Toronto filmmaker is making a TV documentary series about rescued dogs, the people who foster and rehabilitate them, their adoptive families and the rescue groups who take them into care.
By: News reporter, Published on Mon Aug 19 2013

Over a seven-month period, a large, stray dog was seen skulking around an Etobicoke car wash and a nearby industrial site littered with shredded metal. He’d forage through garbage and would run away if approached. Word went out through the well-connected dog rescuer group community in Toronto and one woman, who’s also a certified professional dog trainer, got an email about him. (more…)

Animals’ Voice Pawdcast – Season 2, Episode 4

Since our furry friends are unable to tell us how they’re feeling you’ll need to be able to identify telltale signs of pain, and this podcast will help. In it, the Ontario SPCA interviews Dr. Sheilah Robertson of the American Veterinary Medical Association about assessing pain in animals. With 32 years of experience as a veterinarian, Dr. Robertson has focused on assessing and relieving pain in animals, with a speciailziation in pain management and anesthesia so she is an extremely qualified speaker on this subject.

I encourage you to listen to this episode of the Pawdcast on Sound Could or iTunes.

More Animals’ Voice Pawdcast episodes are planned, so stay tuned!

Host, Kevin MacKenzie, speaks with Dr. Sheilah Robertson of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Robertson discusses the current research involving assessing pain in animals.

Every 2 weeks there will be a new informative Pawdcast!
